Abstract

As Dr. Holford-Strevens discovered, the first Spanish translation of Aulus Gellius (Navarro y Calvo 1893) is actually an indirect translation from Latin. Navarro y Calvo also used a French text that draws on the textual tradition of Gronovius, although the Spanish translator misinterpreted some of the French words.
