Abstract

Experimental measurements of the liquid-liquid equilibrium of the ternary system consisting of acetone + solketal + glycerol were made. The conditions selected for this study were (303.2, 313.2, and 323.2) K at 101.3 kPa, relevant for the synthesis of solketal from glycerol and acetone through a ketalization reaction. The data obtained were correlated to the nonrandom two liquid (NRTL) model, and the binary interaction parameters of the ternary system were retrieved after the optimization of the nonrandomness binary interaction parameters. The liquid-liquid equilibrium data predicted by the NRTL model agreed adequately with the experimental results. © 2014 American Chemical Society.
