La evolución de los derechos audiovisuales del fútbol en España ha generado una serie de cambios que han influido significativamente en la forma en que se consume este deporte en la actualidad, afectando a los precios que los espectadores deben pagar para acceder a los principales contenidos deportivos del país, cuyo incremento se ha visto reflejado en los datos de audiencia de los últimos años.
La comparación con otros modelos internacionales es esencial para comprender los distintos enfoques adoptados por otros países europeos como el Reino Unido, Francia, Alemania o Italia, que muestran diferentes perspectivas sobre cómo se podría replantear el modelo español, especialmente a raíz del aumento de la piratería en los últimos años.
