Abstract
The presence of Islam in Spain and Argentina are unique phenomena that are of growing interest in the academic world, but which, nevertheless, have not given rise to relational or comparative work that would allow for new perspectives of analysis. Within this framework, this initiative seeks to unveil the aspects of the genesis and development of Islam and its communities in both countries, the mechanisms of institutionalisation and its relations with the state, its relationship with migrations and its visibility in the public space. In a form of “choral writing” by researchers from both countries, this article is based on a comparative bibliographical review and some of the main results of different ethnographic works, focusing on the nineteenth and twenty-first centuries. The research made it possible to delimit common temporalities and connections between the two scenarios, with a view to contributing to the establishment of a productive transnational dialogue.
