Abstract
La proliferación de las plataformas de vídeo bajo demanda que se produce durante la segunda década del siglo XXI facilita nuevas prácticas de consumo audiovisual, entre ellas el binge-watching, término que alude al visionado consecutivo de más de dos episodios de una misma serie de ficción, habitualmente del género drama, en una sola sesión. Es una conducta reciente, fruto de la autonomía de visionado, adoptada por más de la mitad de la población desarrollada, razón que justifica el estudio de su origen, práctica y efectos, así como su consecuente impacto empresarial, social y académico.Esta tesis doctoral analiza el binge-watching desde la disciplina del comportamiento del consumidor con el objetivo de comprender la experiencia del espectador durante el encadenado de episodios. The proliferation of video streaming platforms that took place during the second decade of the 21st century facilitates new audiovisual consumption practices, among them binge-watching. This term refers to the consecutive viewing of more than two episodes of the same fiction series, usually of the drama genre, in a single session. This is a recent behaviour, the result of autonomous viewing, adopted by more than half of the developed population, which justifies the study of its origin, practice, and effects, as well as its consequential business, social, and academic impact.This doctoral thesis examines binge-watching through the lens of consumer behaviour, with the aim of understanding the viewer's experience during back-to-back episode viewing. To do this, the existing literature is reviewed, and primary qualitative-exploratory research is undertaken under a multiple triangulation design, structured in two studies that differ in sources and methods of collection and data analysis...
