Abstract
Awareness about the existence and need to conserve the Intangible Cultural Heritage has been gaining strength in recent years and it is a challenge for the professional to safeguard this heritage, which, on the other hand, remains alive, unlike what happens with the artistic object, static, to whose conservation the professional is more accustomed. The purpose of this thesis is to study the intangible heritage of the region of Las Hurdes, which includes the three most representative cultural manifestations of the Hurdian identity: marriage, carnage and carnival. Likewise, a chronological tour of the area has been made through the most illustrious people who had a special interest in improving the quality of life of its inhabitants. For all this, we have taken into account the documents that have been born from conventions, Extremadura and national legislation that have contemplated the Intangible Cultural Heritage over time, and also has done field work that includes interviews to the Hurdian community and an ordering of the documentation obtained through the PCI inventory sheets. All this constitutes an attempt to register and document this cultural and material heritage of the area, which has a tendency to disappear. Despite Las Hurdes is a humble land, its inhabitants, through their customs and artistic manifestations, have forged a solid identity that deserves to be valued and to which the present work tries to contribute.
