Abstract
The fibular artery is a branch of the posterior tibialis artery. The posterior fibular artery and theanterior perforating branch have been considered its terminal division in classic studies. Despite its frequency, many variants have been described concerning branches and role of the fibular artery in the vascularisation of the foot. Its clinical significance relates to its injury potential in the surgical procedures of the leg, ankle and foot. Objectives. The objectives of the present study are, a) to describe, by means of a cadaveric study, the different patterns of the fibular artery terminal division, b) to elaborate a classification to include those patterns and c) to correlate the findings, with special mention to the dominant fibular artery or arteria fibularis magna with the injury potential to the artery and its branches during surgical procedures...
