Abstract
Spain is one of the most significant receiving countries for Latin American immigrants. According to the Spanish National Statistics Institute (INE, 2024), 1’554.000 million Latin Americans reside in Spain under regular status, mostly coming from Colombia, Venezuela, Perú, Ecuador y Bolivia. This situation has been extensively reported in the media; newspapers such as El País and El Mundo have covered the stories of those who arrive in Spain seeking new opportunities. Although their stories are not always fully told, they are made protagonists of various events occurring in Spain, placing them in an informational framework that helps shape an idea or perception of who they are, why they have come, or how they live. This research identifies the informational frames used by these two newspapers regarding the phenomenon of Latin American immigration, with a review of articles published between 2019 and 2023 from which 300 news stories were randomly selected and subjected to a content analysis to identify and classify their narrative. These frames are then compared with the views of a group of Spanish on Latin American immigrants to determine whether the news narrative influences their perception of them.
